Swine flu vaccine may have taken the lives of 14 fetuses

14 abortions and fatal birth may have been caused by the swine flu vaccine.

Norwegian Medicines Agency and of Public Health is concerned about the possible side effects of the vaccine for mother and child.

May have life

In autumn, the Norwegian health authorities started a great experiment: pregnant women should be first priority in the queue for the swine flu vaccine.

70 percent of pregnant women vaccinated themselves. Now it turns out that the vaccine may have cost lives.

Norwegian doctors have reported 21 stillbirths and miscarriages as the fear caused by the vaccine. More than half of them had come halfway through the pregnancy.

"Some can we rule out that has something to do with the vaccine, because the patients have had other serious diseases that can not be related to the vaccine. But in some cases we have not NOK information to say it 100 percent safe, "said Steinar Madsen in the Norwegian Medicines Agency to TV 2 news.

"Were there any clinical studies about the side effects in pregnant?"

"No, not at this vaccine, "says Madsen.

Will examine

"We need to find out.  It is serious if someone is unsure whether vaccination was the cause of something so serious. When are we going to have to get to the bottom of it, "says Bent Høie (H) who is head of Parliament's health committee.

Norwegian Medicines Agency and of Public Health will launch a study that will include all the pregnant women who were vaccinated.

Will not pay

The study will cost 20 million, but it will not pay the Ministry of Health, despite the fact that they took part in the decision to vaccinate pregnant women against swine flu.

"This single project does not have our present money.  But we can only hope that there are others within the research area in Norway which help finance the project," says State Secretary Roger Ingebrigtsen (Ap) in Health and Care Services.

Side effects

Medicines Agency believes the need for research is huge. 14 stillbirths and spontaborter must be examined to determine whether they are caused by the vaccine.

Moreover, children who were vaccinated in the mother's womb had side effects of the vaccine, such as low birth weight.
