Qld cop suspended for alleged misconduct
A Queensland police constable has been suspended from duty as an investigation by the state's crime watchdog continues into alleged misconduct.
The 27-year-old man from the southeastern police region could face further disciplinary action once the outcome of the investigation is known, police said in a statement.
The Crime and Misconduct Commission (CMC) is investigating alleged police misconduct on the Gold Coast, under an operation codenamed Tesco.
CMC officers on Sunday raided a number of premises in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, including the Burleigh Heads and Surfers Paradise police stations, and seized relevant documents.
While neither the CMC nor police would confirm details, News Limited newspapers reported the raids related to allegations that an off-duty Surfers Paradise junior constable was with a group of people who were found with ecstasy tablets in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
"The activities undertaken on Sunday were part of an investigation that is likely to continue for some time," CMC director of misconduct investigations Russell Pearce said in a statement on Monday.
"The evidence gathered yesterday will be assessed as part of an ongoing police misconduct investigation that, until yesterday, was being progressed by the CMC in a covert manner.
"A police officer has been suspended on the basis of evidence discovered on Sunday morning, but no consideration has yet been given to bringing any criminal charges."
Police Minister Neil Roberts declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
